Big Rapids –
The Big Rapids Cardinals and their fans may have thought they had an easy win in the making after seven minutes in to the first quarter as they jumped out to a 19-0 lead. Why not? Desean Griffin scored twice on runs of one yard and seventy one yards, then Mekhi Urban running one in from twelve yards. But as Lee Corso on ESPN’s College Gameday says “Not so fast my friend”. Tri County outscored the Cardinals 14-7 in the second quarter with the lone Big Rapids score going to Avery Montgomery who ran it 53 yards for the touchdown.
As the rain fell steady in the second half Tri County and Big Rapids both getting touchdowns in the third, as Desean Griffin added his third and final touchdown as he ran it 19 times for 153 yards. Tri County made a late charge in the fourth as they got it within three a couple of times. After a kickoff returned for a touchdown by Tri County the Cardinals head coach Mike Selzer deep in his own territory on forth and short went for and got the first down to help seal the game in Big Rapids favor.
The Cardinals ran the ball really well as three Cardinals individually ran for over one hundred yards (Desean Griffin, Brenton Childress and Mekhi Urban) while the team ran it for 475 yards on fifty six carries.
The Cardinals are now 4-0 on the season and stay home as Big Rapids faces Bay City John Glenn Friday night at 7pm on the campus of Ferris State University.
