Big Rapids –
The Big Rapids Cardinals opened their home schedule up with a resounding 33-15 victory over Newaygo Thursday night. Coach Mike Selzer pushed his guys during camp for accountability and to take care of the ball while wreaking havoc defensively. His team put that together against Newaygo.
The defense forced the Newaygo Lions to turn the ball over on downs five times, four of them in Cardinal territory while also picking off two passes. Offensively Junior RB Avery Montgomery (5 attempts, 112 yards and 2 TD’s) had long touchdown runs to help pace the offense and show the explosiveness of this Cardinal offense. Sophomore Braeden Childress led the receiving attack with 94 yards receiving and two touchdowns. Jeffery Davenport and Hunter Walch threw a TD a piece to round out the offensive production in the Cardinal attack.
The Cardinals take their 2-0 record on the road to Grant (1-1) next Friday night.
