Reed City – Emotion. In sports emotion is a double edged sword. It can propel a team to reach a high height that they may have not seen before and can also hurt a team to dissolve during key moments of a contest. And senior night for any program brings out the emotion in all student-athletes.
Unfortunately for the Cardinals, that senior night emotion propelled the Coyotes to a 56-20 victory.
Reed City won the toss and decided to receive the opening kickoff. Reed City known as a running team bringing multiple weapons and ways to run the ball did that all drive and it capped with a Jonathon Green long touchdown run that put Reed City up 8-0 after the two point conversion. Big Rapids on their first possession got a big run from Desean Griffin for a twenty five yard run on their first play from scrimmage. Later on in the drive the Cardinals converted on a fourth and three but stalled when they got into the red zone and decided to go for it on fourth and seven.
After a Cardinal punt the Coyotes went up 16-0 on a 33 yard pass from Nolan Patterson to Patrick Jobes. And Reed City didn’t relent as they pushed the lead to 30-0 at the half. The Cardinals punted four out of their five possessions all on three and outs, plus Reed City controlled total yards 234-56.
In the second half after Reed City went up 36-0 Avery Montgomery took the ball over seventy yards for a touchdown to get Big Rapids on the board. With the score being 50-7 Desean Griffin got a one yard touchdown run to put another seven points on the board. Cardinals scoring ended when Jamison Green threw a beautiful 67 yard touchdown pass to Keenan Mcintyre to put the final touch on the scoring.
Big Rapids will look to bounce back against Chippewa Hills next Friday under the lights of Top Taggart Field at 7pm.
