Boys Junior Varsity Soccer, Boys Varsity Soccer · Cardinal Soccer Romps Roscommon

Big Rapids – Coming off a win against rival Reed City one would wonder how the Cardinals soccer team would play in a cold, windy and rainy day against Roscommon. For head coach Justin Fox and the Cardinals they played exceptional. Playing on the lower field Big Rapids and Roscommon felt each other out for the first twenty five minutes before the Cardinals scored twice quickly within two minutes.

After a beautiful ball that gave Roscommon their first and only goal of the match Edgar Covarrubias scored to give Big Rapids a 3-1 lead at the half. In the second half Big Rapids controlled the match notching four more goals and outplaying Roscommon in every facet of the match. Coach Fox gave players who normally don’t get a ton of time on the pitch an opportunity and he was pleased with how they played.

Cardinals to score in the match was Scott Vander Sloot who notched a hat trick, Garrett Garner who netted twice, and adding goals were Covarrubias and Mark Wissink.

he Cardinals are playing their best as the season winds down with Districts looming soon on the horizon as they are 10-1 in their last eleven matches.
