Freeland – The Big Rapids varsity volleyball team went 2-2-1 in the Freeland tournament Saturday, falling in the semi final to conference foe Chippewa Hills.

The Cardinals opened pool play splitting with host Freeland, 17-25, 25-21. Madeline White had six kills for Big Rapids while Hannah Dadles had three and Cara Jensen and Karissa Jones knocked down two. Lauren Maginnis had 15 assists. Jerri Nowak had a pair of digs.

Big Rapids beat Houghton Lake 25-23 and 25-13 in the second round of the pool. Jones, White, and Dadles had two service aces. White had six kills and Dadles had three. Maginnis had 9 assists and Jensen had five digs.

The Cardinals finished pool play with a loss to Garber High School, 12-25, 26-28. Jensen had five kills. Dadles, Jones, and White each had two kills. Jensen and Dadles each had six service aces. Maginnis had five assists. Jensen had three digs. Mackenzie Potter had two digs and five assists.

In the first round of bracket play, Big Rapids knocked off Gladwin 25-17, 25-15. Dadles had 4 aces. White had 3 aces. Maginnis had 2. White had 8 kills. Jordan Balliet had 3. Maginnis had 7 assists.

In the tournament semi-final Big Rapids lost to Chippewa Hills 21-25, 18-25. Dadles had five aces to go with four kills. White had three kills. Maginnis had four assists.

The Cardinals are 14-18-1 and will be at Chippewa Hills Wednesday and Reed City on Thursday.
