Benzonia – The Big Rapids High School Cross Country team advanced four runners to the State Finals Meet next Saturday at Michigan International Speedway in Brooklyn. Clark Ruiz, Ben Schaffer, Brent Heberling, and Chloe Kinnally all advance to the final step of the state tournament.
For the Boys team, it was sort of bittersweet as they finished just four points away from making it as a team. They finished in fourth place behind Cedar Springs, Gaylord and Whitehall. Clark Ruiz took second place overall in a time of 15:16, Ben Shaffer was sixth in 16:05 and Brent Heberling was 14th in 16:25 to each qualify individually for the state meet. Ethan Goodman, Alex MacLean, and Hunter Jacobs rounded out the running for Big Rapids at times of 17:50, 18:05 and 18:22 respectively.
For the Girls team, it was Chloe Kinnally that led the way for the Cardinals as she qualified for states with a 13th place finish in a time of 19:16. Kayla Chamberlain, Katie King, and Maddie Zadvinskis rounded out the girls team with times of 22:23, 22:53, and 24:49.
