Big Rapids – It was a great day for Cardinal Soccer and Coach Justin Fox as Big Rapids beat rival Reed City 6-0 and at the same time, clinched first place in the CSAA.
The Cardinals used strong play early to jump out on the strength of three goals in the first 15 minutes of play. The first goal of the night came from Seth Stratz on a long range kick over the head of the goal-keeper. Sam Miller added a header on a long throw in from Joe Carney to make the score 2-0 and Scott Vander Sloot made it 3-0 when he broke in and took a low shot past the Coyote goalie.
The Cardinals continued to play well and padded their lead on a goal by Vander Sloot as he knocked in a rebound from a Zach Taylor shot. Travis Thorne and Taylor rounded out the scoring for the Cardinals as Taylor’s was the first of his career.
After the 6-0 win, the Cardinals move to 5-0 in CSAA play and 13-4 overall. Big Rapids is back in action on Thursday as they take on Clare. JV starts at 4:30 and Varsity at 6pm.
