Boys Varsity Cross Country, Girls Varsity Cross Country · Boys Cross Country Wins CSAA Championship


Newaygo – The Big Rapids Cardinal Boys Cross Country team finished off a perfect conference jamboree record by winning the final jamboree hosted by Newaygo on Tuesday evening.  The win gives the Cardinals the 2012 Conference Championship.

Leading the way for the Cardinals was Ben Shaffer, who set a course record, with a time of 16:51.  Brent Heberling took third overall with a 17:12, Ethan Goodman was 12th at 18:14, Clark Ruiz was 13th at 18:16 adn Alex MacLean was 22nd with an 18:49. Senior Clark Ruiz also won the individual championship for the fourth straight year which is an outstanding accomplishment for Clark.

On the girls side, Big Rapids wrapped up fifth place overall after being led again by Chloe Kinnally who also took fifth place individually with a time of 20:24.  Kayla Chamberlain was 20th in 23:15, Katie King was 30th in 24:36, Maddie Zadvinskis was 38th in 25:38 and Jahressa Lewis was 41st in 26:30.

The Cardinal Cross Country teams are back in action next Saturday as they head to the Traverse City Invitational.
